College or university Dorm Room

College or university Dorm Room

I’ve received a lot of emails lately from this year’s inward bound freshmen, wanting to know how to be able to decorate a dorm room and finding cute dorm bedding. I thought I would post on the subject, because it’s so easy to produce your dorm room fabulous.

One quick thing to note: College is THE time to go crazy with your room designs. Once you’re living in the adult world, it will no longer be as acceptable to have a hot-pink bed, purple mini freezer, and strings of Christmas lights hanging everywhere inside your apartment. For now, feel liberal to express your personality in your room – you are able to go for the “adult” look later!

This will be a multi-part series I’ll be posting within the next few days. Today I’m going to spotlight Dorm Room Bedding. There are so many options out there in terms of duvet covers and sheet sets, which I’m going to feature by the end of this post. First, here are a couple tips on buying bedding with regard to college:
4 Tips on Obtaining Bedding for College

Get extra-long side by side sheets. That’s the number one rule for dorm room bedsheets, which they probably tell you at orientation. Normal twin dimension sheets won’t fit most dorm bedrooms, so you need to acquire XL-Twin.
Don’t get white bedsheets. In college, your dorm room is where you spend most of energy – whether it’s studying, pre-gaming, hanging out with friends or even eating. Since there isn’t much room for chairs from the typical dorm, your bed is going to be like a couch most of that time period. Therefore, if you get white bedding, it will probably be stained/ruined by the end of the semester. Select darker colors unless you’re very, very neat.
Buy a couple of sets of sheets. You aren’t planning to feel like doing laundry more frequently than every two weeks, and if you only have one list of sheets, they’re going to acquire grungy. Oh, and message towards the boys: you need to wash your sheets over and over again a year! If you’re care-free, get a few sheet sets and swap them out routinely.
Buy a mattress pad. Trust me – the bed your dorm room comes with is going to be hard as a rock! Receive a good mattress pad (memory froth is amazing but pricey; egg crate pads are another decent option) whilst your back will thank you!
